Legislative & Regulatory Efforts
NAPSLO's Legislative and Regulatory efforts play an important role in the association by monitoring and expressing positions on state and federal issues affecting the surplus lines industry. The committee directs staff efforts in working with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL).
NAPSLO, assisted by its Legislative Committee, works with state and local organizations where objectives are consistent with NAPSLO positions and principles. Position papers are written to state the association’s views on important and timely issues.
NAPSLO also works in close cooperation with other insurance trade associations to advance the interests of the industry and consumers to foster a smooth and vibrant surplus lines industry. In addition, in May 2005 NAPSLO signed an agreement with B&D Sagamore to represent NAPSLO in Washington.
To help NAPSLO members keep up with surplus lines law, the law firm of Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP has allowed NAPSLO to post a PDF copy of their Excess and Surplus Lines Laws In The United States.
