Foundation passes $4.5 million mark

Thanks to numerous contributions, by the end of 2005. the Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation had passed the $4.5 million mark in fundraising. The Foundation has set a fundraising goal is $5 million by the end of 2006.

"Thanks to the many industry contributions we are nearing our fundraising goal," said President Joseph D. Timmons, CPCU, ASLI. "These funds will allow us to increase our education efforts and other programs."

A number of firms made significant pledges or contributions in 2005, including $100,000 from an anonymous donor for Polley Scholarships, $10,000 from Partners Specialty Group for McLaughlin Scholarships.

In addition, Lloyd's contributed $100,000 and $25,000 pledges were made by Harman Kemp North America, HSBC Insurance Brokers, Miller North America, and THB Group.

Several state surplus lines stamping offices also made major contributions in 2005. The Surplus Lines Association of Washington gave $5,000 and the Excess Lines Association of New York, the Surplus Lines Association of Arizona, and the Surplus Lines Stamping Office of Texas each gave $10,000.

The Ninth Annual Foundation Golf Invitation in February 2005 also raised approximately $53,000 and the 10th Annual event is expected to raise a similar amount.
