Operation Recovery and Redevelopment Committee
The "Operation Recovery and Redevelopment Committee" appointed by Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Robert Wooley to create and execute a coordinated recovery and redevelopment plan for properties in St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes damaged by Hurricane Katrina has begun work.

NAPSLO, the LASLA, and other Associations were asked to participate by the Insurance Department and keep their members informed of the effort to participate and contribute to this coordinated recovery and redevelopment project.

Grids for adjustment areas for Plaquemines Parish and St. Bernard Parish have been established.  Any insurance company that has not already received a copy of the grids for review and would like to receive them can contact Ginny Davis at the Louisiana department at gdavis@ladoi.com.

Several sites for Insurance Mobile Recovery Units (MRUs) were reported available on LA Highway 23 in Plaquemines Parish. In St. Bernard Parish space was listed as available in the Walmart parking lot on St. Bernard Highway in Chalmette.

In Plaquemines Parish, the committee said housing was available for adjusters in a Tent City in Belle Chasse, adjacent to the Government Annex building on Main Street. Shelter, meals, laundry service, air conditioning, bathrooms and cots were to be provided.  Adjusters must provide their own bedding or sleeping bags.

In St. Bernard Parish, a Tent City was being set up in Chalmette and housing will be available to adjusters if space is available. Eight-person tents are air conditioned with showers and outhouses and meals were to be provided on site.

For more information, contact the Louisiana Insurance Department at (225) 342-5900 or (225) 342-0895.
