Committee Announces 2007-2008 Officer and Director Nominees 
The NAPSLO Nominating Committee recently issued its proposed slate of officers and directors for the Association for 2007-08. Nominated for officer positions were:

President
 - Mary Ellen Rozzell, Continental/Marmorstein & Malone, Paramus, NJ.
Vice President - John F. Wood, III, CIC, CIW, Specialty Risk Associates, Inc., Shreveport, LA.
Secretary - Dale H. Pilkington, Colony Insurance Company, Richmond, VA.
Treasurer - Marshall P. Kath, Colemont Brokerage Group, Inc., Dallas, TX.

Nominated for a new three-year term on the Board was Kevin T. Westrope, Westrope, Kansas City, MO. Steven R. Gross, Metro Insurance Services, Inc.; Marshall P. Kath, Colemont Brokerage Group Inc.; Tom Mulligan, Western World Insurance Group; and Gary Tiepelman, CPCU, ASLI, Scottsdale Insurance Co., were renominated for three-year terms. Directors are nominated for three-year terms on the Board.  Officers are nominated for a one-year term. 

NAPSLO member firms will vote on the proposed slate of officers and directors during the Annual Business Meeting, scheduled Friday, October 5, at the Annual Convention in New Orleans. 

Annual Convention Programs
More than 3,100 people have registered for the 2007 Annual Convention, scheduled for Oct. 3-6 in New Orleans. The Opening Reception begins Wednesday and programs at the Annual Convention begin Thursday morning at 10 a.m. with a welcome by James J. Donelon, Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance. His speech will be followed by Changing Markets, Changing Laws: What's Ahead for the E&S Wholesaler? The program will feature a panel of leading Company and Broker representatives discussing current issues and legislation under review and the effects on surplus lines.

Friday opens with award presentations and an address by President Bill Newton. Political consultants James Carville and Mary Matalin will present the annual Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation lecture. In addition, ASLI conferees and NAPSLO interns will be recognized. Friday morning's program concludes with the Annual Business Meeting.  A volunteer opportunity with Habitat for Humanity will give those a chance to help rebuild New Orleans on Saturday.

A Volunteer Opportunity with Habitat for Humanity

Advanced School Sells Out
The NAPSLO 2007 Advanced School has sold all available spaces. The school, set for October 27-30 in St. Louis, offers a comprehensive look at surplus lines, and provides the opportunity to meet with others in the industry. 

The school moved to St. Louis this year and will be held at the Eric P. Newman Education Center, where previous E&S Schools were held. Session topics will include claims, finance, recognizing scams, reinsurance & alternative risk, brokering, errors & omissions, trends in E-Business, and a review of current federal legislative proposals.   

Remembering Mike Snead
Former NAPSLO director and president of the Admiral Insurance Company, Michael James Snead, 80, of Horseheads, NY passed away in August after battling a long illness. Mr. Snead served on the NAPSLO Board of Directors from 1986-1992, serving as Chair of the Security & Review, Industry and Legislative Committees.

Mr. Snead was a Veteran of WW II serving his country with The U.S Army. He married his wife, Margarete Rinke Snead, on August 9, 1947 and they would have celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on August 9th. He was an avid golfer and was a stock market enthusiast. Michael loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Mr. Snead was survived by his loving wife of 60 years, and a number of family members.
