  • August 16, 2006 - NAPSLO 2006-07 Slate of Officers, Directors Announced; NAPSLO Seeking Committee Volunteers; Registration Materials for Advanced School available.
  • August 1, 2006 - Approval of Surplus Lines Bill Viewed as Significant Step; Legislative Tracking Service Offered; Brokers' Lounge Meetings Made Easier with Zones.
  • July 21, 2006 - NAPSLO applauded the passage of the Non-Admitted and Reinsurance Reform Act of 2006 (H.R. 5637), by the House Financial Services Committee, Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises and hopes that the next step is swift floor action on the bill.
  • July 7, 2006 - All rooms NAPSLO booked at the Hilton Chicago, Palmer House Hilton, and the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers have been filled and we request that members who have not mailed their registration and hotel information to NAPSLO should make hotel arrangements on their own.
  • June 23, 2006  - NAPSLO praised introduction of Non-Admitted and Reinsurance Reform Act; main convention hotel sells out.
  • June 1, 2006 - Convention registration materials mailed; reminder that NAPSLO has moved to new offices.
  • May 15, 2006 - NAPSLO to move to new offices; Convention registration materials to be mailed soon; NAPSLO visits Capitol Hill during IIABA meeting; NAPSLO conducting survey on convention locations and programming.                                                        
  • April 6, 2006 - NAPSLO issues press release outlining its disappointment that the Optional Federal Chartering Proposal (OFC)introduced in the U.S. Senate did not include NAPSLO's proposed language to address the premium tax remittance and licensing concerns of the surplus lines industry.
  • March 29, 2006 - NAPSLO has named Steven P. Stephan, CPCU, ARe, as Director of Government Relations for the Association; NAPSLO membership directories have been mailed; March/April NAPSLO News mailed to members.
  • February 6, 2006 - Education Committee conducts survey to examine the interest in the current educational schools; NAPSLO PAC has received several contributions from members; Automation & Agency Management Conference registration is underway; annual financial audit was recently completed and copies are available.

 2005

  • December 22, 2005 - President Mac Wesson announced the formation of NAPSLO PAC, a Political Action Committee, which will support candidates at the federal level; House of Representatives and Senate have approved a compromise Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) bill.                                                                                
  • December 15, 2005 - Two concepts, Automatic Export for exempt commercial purchasers and One-State Compliance for multi-state surplus lines risks, which were presented by NAPSLO representatives to the House Financial Services Committee staff for inclusion in the SMART Act, have been included in the TRIA extension approved by the House of Representatives.                                                                                    
  • November 1, 2005 - Matthew D. Nichols, ASLI, of All Risks, Ltd.,  has been appointed to the NAPSLO Board of Directors; NAPSLO members participated in two recent educational symposiums directed at insurance students; firms with interests in the New Orleans area, new information regarding the Operation Recovery and Redevelopment Committee established by the Louisiana Department of Insurance is being posted on the NAPSLO blog; Legislative video, shown at the 2005 Convention in San Francisco, sent to members, available on website.                                                                                      
  • October 12, 2005 - The Operation Recovery and Redevelopment Committee appointed by Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Robert Wooley has begun work; NAPSLO members who have had to set up new office locations should notify NAPSLO of any address changes; Membership Renewal Deadline is October 20; deadline for the NAPSLO Internship program is Dec. 1.                                                                
  • September 26, 2005 - Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Robert Wooley appoints NAPSLO to a committee comprised of insurance trade associations; local, state and federal agencies; and a number of large personal lines insurance companies. The purpose of the committee is to create and execute a coordinated recovery and redevelopment plan for properties in St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes damaged by Hurricane Katrina.                                  
  • September 2, 2005 - NAPSLO will offer free wireless access in the Brokers' Lounge at the San Francisco Marriott at the upcoming convention; NAPSLO member firms in areas impacted by the Hurricane Katrina with employees registered for the Annual Convention can cancel those registrations without penalty; all spaces for the NAPSLO Advanced School, set for November 5-8 at the Hilton DFW Lakes Executive Conference Center in Grapevine, Texas, have been filled; and August/September issue of the NAPSLO News is available.                                                                  
  • August 10, 2005 - Registration passeds 3,000 mark for Convention and final preparations are being made for Legislative Breakfast; Nominating Committee issues slate of officers and directors; Registration is underway for the Advanced School, November 5-8; Employees of member firms interested in volunteering for a committee should notify NAPSLO by Aug. 31.                                                                    
  • July 27, 2005 - B&D Sagamore provides background paper on the proposed National Insurance Act; only two states enact legislation regarding disclosure of producer compensation following recent investigations; NAPSLO redesigns format of the E-News e-mails; approximately 2,900 people register for the NAPSLO Annual Convention; membership renewal invoices are mailed and dues should be remitted by August 1.                                                                                                
  • June 1, 2005 - Marriott is sold out of general sleeping rooms for the 2005 NAPSLO Convention; need to keep up with all the latest NAPSLO news? Visit the new NAPSLO Blog; catch up on the latest legislative activities and meet NAPSLO's new legislative representative by the attending the special legislative breakfast at the Annual Convention.                                                                    
  • May 04, 2005 - NAPSLO signs agreement with B&D Sagamore to provide the Association with representation and lobbying in Washington, D.C. for both Congress and Executive Branch agencies; Registration materials for the 2005 Convention in San Francisco will be mailed to members in mid-May and will a be available for download beginning the week of May 16.                                                                    
  • April 12, 2005 - NAPSLO representatives met with staff of the House Financial Services Committee regarding NAPSLO's views on the discussion draft of the SMART Act discussion draft; NAPSLO E&S School, set for June 25-28 in St. Louis, has sold out; and the 2005 Annual Convention is set for September 14-18 at the San Francisco Marriott and registration materials will be mailed in mid-May.                                                                                                          
  • March 11, 2005 - NAPSLO  responds to questions by the NAIC Executive Task Force regarding the Compensation Disclosure Amendment to the Producer Licensing Model Act (PLMA) for public hearing at the NAIC Spring meeting.                                                                    
  • February 24, 2005 - NAPSLO issues statement on contingency fees; South Carolina discussions on guaranty fund; Automation Conference, March 12 - 15; NAPSLO membership directory mailed, also on web site.                                  
  • January 19, 2005 - NAIC approves first draft of proposed Producer Licensing Model Act; registration underway for AAMGA Automation Conference, March 12 - 15; AAMGA to send out Income & Expense Survey; nearly 600 register for NAPSLO Mid-Year Workshop, Feb. 17-20, in California.

2004

  • December 16, 2004 -  Virginia says surplus lines policies not required to comply with rules Claims Made provisions; Mid-Year Educational Workshop registration deadline is Dec. 28; Long Term Disability survey reminder; membership update forms need to be returned by Dec. 23.                                                                  
  • November 30, 2004 - NAPSLO 2005 Mid-Year Workshop materials available; online video of program from NAPSLO convention available; Members asked to fill out Long Term Disability interest survey.                                                                    
  • October 29, 2004 - Richard Polizzi, President of the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices (NAPSLO), has issued the following statement on behalf of NAPSLO in regard to the New York Attorney General's Investigation of insurance practices.                                                                  
  • August 19, 2004 - NAPSLO Nominating Committee releases report to be voted on on September 22 at Annual Business Meeting at Annual Convention in Orlando.                                                                  
  • August 9, 2004 - NAPSLO & ACORD putting together a focus group on technology; Committee Volunteer deadline is Aug. 13; Registration underway for 2004 Advanced School; NAPSLO's convention hotel room block sells out.                                                                    
  • July 15, 2004 - Former Defense Secretary William Cohen to speak at convention; main hotel sold out; NAPSLO to make email address list available to members;AAMGA Income & Expense Report available; recognize ASLI graduates.                                                                  
  • May 19, 2004 - Convention registration underway, member locator updated, Insurance Prospects, NAPSLO notes passing of former intern.                                                                  
  • March 9, 2004 - Negotiation Skills Seminar registration deadline, Membership Directory & Locator; American Agent & Broker offer.

2003

  • November 24, 2003 - NAPSLO 2004 Mid-Year Educational Workshop information, NAPSLO Intern Resumes available; Membership updates being sent to members to update information.                                                                    
  • October 15, 2003 - Florida Countersignature law overturned; State rate and form survey; Treasury guidelines on Premium excise tax; Treasury's final regulations on TRIA.
