Committee Day Update
November 12-13, 2007
NAPSLO's Committee Day will take place at the DFW Hyatt Regency Hotel at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, November 12-13.
Nearly 150 NAPSLO committee and board members are expected to attend the meeting to plan upcoming programs and also the course of the Association over the next year. Two new committees have been added: a Political Action Committee and a Future Leaders Committee. The NAPSLO Committees and chairs are: Budget, Finance, & Audit – Marshall Kath; Annual Convention - John Wood; Communications & Technology - Letha Heaton & Bob Sargent; Education - Gil Hine & Randy Jones; Internship - Gary Tiepelman & Tim Makowski; International – Matt Nichols; Legislative - Tom Mulligan; Membership & Ethics - Greg Crouse; Mid-Year Educational Workshop – Dale Pilkington; Future Leaders Committee - Steve Gross; PAC - Kevin Westrope; and Past Presidents' Council – Bill Newton.
Attendance in New Orleans Again Breaks 3,000
NAPSLO continued to see a large number of attendees at the annual convention, with more than 3,200 registered for the Annual Convention in October in New Orleans.
The convention featured husband and wife duo James Carville and Mary Matalin who presented the Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation Lecture. There was also a presentation, "Changing Markets, Changing Laws: What's Ahead for the E&S Wholesaler?" The panel consisted of Richard Bouhan, NAPSLO Executive Director; J. Neal Abernathy, Swett & Crawford; M. Steven DeCarlo, AmWins Group, Inc.; Ronald Gabor, Gabor Insurance Services, Inc.; Marshall P. Kath, Colemont Brokerage Group; Dennis Crosby, ACE Westchester; David E. Leonard, CPCU, ARe, AIAF, ARM, RSUI Group; Thomas F. Mulligan, Western World Insurance Group and Dale H. Pilkington, Colony Insurance Company.
Several award presentations also took place, including awarding the Charles A. McAlear/NAPSLO Industry Award to Kurt Bingeman. The Richard M. Bouhan Legislative Advocacy Award was presented to Andrew S. Frazier, CPCU. The President's Award as hardest working Director was presented to Randall D. Jones, and The Dana Roehrig (Past President's) Award was presented to Philip R. Ballinger, Jr. CPCU, ASLI.
The 2008 Annual Convention is scheduled for San Diego, September 10-13.
NAPSLO Volunteers Join Habitat for Humanity Project


Over 100 NAPSLO convention attendees joined together in New Orleans to help others by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. Upon the conclusion of the Annual Convention, volunteers helped in rebuilding homes in the Musician's Village of New Orleans Saturday, October 6.
The construction project will help provide affordable housing to families in the New Orleans area. The site was a new construction area and no experience was necessary. Photos of this event can be accessed by going to the site: http://napslo.shutterfly.com and navigating to the Habitat album.
