NAPSLO selects eight for summer intern program

Eight students were selected to participate in NAPSLO's 2004 Summer Internship Program.  The interns spend five weeks with a NAPSLO member surplus lines insurance company and four weeks with a NAPSLO member wholesale broker/agent.

The 2004 NAPSLO Summer Interns are as follows:

•     Michelle ClarkNewarkDel., a student at the University of South Carolina. Her summer hosts are Penn-America Group, Inc., and DVUA, both hosts are located in HatboroPa.

•     Elissa Dranove, AthensGa., a student at the University of Georgia.  Her summer hosts are Essex Insurance Company, Glen Allen, Va., and U.S. Risk Insurance Group, DallasTexas.

•     Kelly Everson, FoleyAla., a student at Troy State University. Her summer hosts are Colony Insurance Company and All Risks, Ltd., both hosts are located in RichmondVa.

•     Andrea Leroy, Holly Springs, N.C., a student at Florida State University. Her summer hosts are American Safety Indemnity Co., AtlantaGa., and Atlantic Specialty Lines, RichmondVa.

•     Jeremy Shephard, KalamazooMich., a student at Olivet College. His summer hosts are General Star Indemnity Company and CRC-Illinois, both hosts are located in Chicago.

•     Paige Shipp, NashvilleTenn., a student at Middle Tennessee State University. Her summer hosts are Evanston Insurance Company, DeerfieldIll., and Arlington/Roe & Co., Indianapolis.

•     Jaqueline Tew, BrundidgeAla.,   a student at Troy State University. Her summer hosts are Western World Insurance Group, Franklin Lakes, N.J., and Continental/Marmorstein & Malone, ParamusN.J.

•     Jana Torblaa, AcworthGa., a student at the University of Georgia.  Her summer hosts are Scottsdale Insurance Company, ScottsdaleAriz., and Westrope & AssociatesKansas City, Mo.  

NAPSLO interns rotate throughout different departments and learn about all facets of the excess and surplus lines insurance business.  In addition to travel and housing costs, NAPSLO pays a stipend and the host firms pay a competitive salary.

Four of the interns will be selected to attend the NAPSLO Annual Convention in the Fall and will interview for an additional internship to London the following summer. David Celetti was named the J.H. Blades Scholar in 2003 and will complete his three week internship with Thompson Heath and Bond Ltd. this June.    

The internship program was created to attract new talent to the surplus lines insurance industry.  Since the program’s inception, it has sponsored 156 interns and over half of the former interns are currently working in the insurance industry, and many are employed by NAPSLO member firms.
