Matalin and Carville to speak during Annual Convention
James Carville and Mary Matalin will be the Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation Lecture Series speakers during the Annual Convention in October.
Matalin, who served in both Bush administrations, and Carville, who guided Bill Clinton to the White House, will provide insights on the upcoming 2008 election.
Matalin formerly served as assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney, and was the first White House official to hold the double title.
Before joining the Bush/Cheney White House, she hosted CNN's acclaimed debate show, Crossfire. She is the founding co-host of the Washington-based political weeknight talk show, Equal Time, which premiered on CNBC.
Currently, Matalin is the Editor-in-Chief of Threshold Editions, a new publishing imprint of Simon & Schuster. To date, Threshold has published several titles including Mary Cheney's Now It's My Turn, and most recently, Ed Gillespie's Winning Right: Campaign Politics and Conservative Policies.
Carville, a Louisiana native, may be America's best-known political consultant. His list of electoral successes evidences a knack for steering overlooked campaigns to landslide victories.
In 1992, he was behind President Bill Clinton's successful run, and in 1993 was honored as Campaign Manager of the Year by the American Association of Political Consultants.
Carville was also the focus, along with George Stephanopoulos, of the feature-length Academy Award nominated documentary, the War Room.
After the Clinton victory, Carville began to focus on foreign consulting, including assisting British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Other clients have included Greek Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis; the Liberal Party of Canada; and Ehud Barak, former Prime Minister of Israel.
America's political "odd couple," Matalin and Carville wrote All's Fair: Love, War, and Running for President.
Carville's books have included We're Right, They're Wrong: A Handbook for Spirited Progressives; and The Horse He Rode In On: The People vs. Kenneth Starr.
Matalin's most recent book, Letters to My Daughters, was named a Book of the Month Club selection. It also was on The New York Times and Washington Post best-seller lists.
In 2003, Carville and Matalin appeared in the critically acclaimed HBO series K Street, a political drama based on the working lives of Washington political consultants.
Carville can be seen as a CNN commentator and contributor. Matalin has made frequent television appearances as a political commentator, and has written for Newsweek and the Los Angeles Times.
