Career Awareness Committee looking for volunteers
The Career Awareness Committee is looking for volunteers to assist in promoting the surplus lines industry to local schools, colleges and universities. The committee is developing an informational packet to assist members in speaking at local institutions.
Members interested in volunteering can go to volunteer.napslo.org to provide NAPSLO your information. Please note any alumni organizations you are familiar with (high school, career centers, junior colleges and colleges) in your area and if you will be able to make personal contact if necessary.
We believe members are a great resource in promoting the industry on a local level, said committee chair Steve Gross. We hope members will use the materials we produce in talks with local students.
The committees goal is to find members to contact local or regional and alumni contacts to solicit and educate students in any of the above institutions about the industrys mission, Surplus Lines Insurance and the career opportunities within.
Job Portal
The committee is also setting up an expanded employment web page offering members the ability to post job openings to assist members in finding new employees and allow job seekers to post resumes.
Currently NAPSLOs career center (jobs.napslo.org) offers members the ability to list their firm name, phone number and web site as offering employment information, however firms were not able to list specific jobs and job seekers can not post resumes.
NAPSLO is working with a third party to set up the job portal to allow members to post job openings and applicants to search those jobs. Under a test phase, for the first six months, there will be no charge for members to post jobs or job seekers to post resumes. NAPSLO is currently working on installing the new portal and hopes to have it available by February.
