Under 40 reception set at convention
The Career Awareness Committee is sponsoring a reception at the 2008 NAPSLO Annual Convention on Thursday, September 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for those under 40 to help gauge interest in additional activities for the committee, such as forming an under 40 group.
There is no charge for the event and convention attendees under 40 who havent signed up for the reception can do so by notifying Mike Ardis (mike@napslo.org). Those interested who havent registered for the convention can select the option online when registering for the convention.
Based on the initial reaction, we think it will be a well attended event, said Committee Chair Steve Gross. We are hoping to get an idea of what the under 40 attendees would like to see NAPSLO offer in the future.
Job Portal
Another area the committee continues to work on is the new job portal, located at http://jobs.napslo.org. The new job portal site allows NAPSLO member firms to post job openings and review potential applicants resumes. Job seekers can search job openings and also post resumes.
Currently there is no charge to use the site, but NAPSLO will review the site later this year, examining both the traffic and usage to determine whether to charge employers to post employment openings.
Volunteers
The Career Awareness Committee is working on a number of areas to bring additional people into the surplus lines industry. Recently the committee completed work on a course guide to assist volunteers when visiting colleges.
NAPSLO is seeking volunteers to start contacting schools to make presentations starting in the fall. People interested in volunteering can go to http://volunteer.napslo.org to sign up. NAPSLO will provide the guide and materials and help people set up the college meetings.
Efforts Recognized
The Career Awareness Committees efforts were recently recognized by the Insurance Marketing Communications Association (IMCA) at their awards program.
The Career Awareness Campaign received a Best of Show Award in the category of Special Communications Campaigns and an Award of Excellence in the category of Public Relations.
NAPSLO and Marketing Strategies Group has worked on informing Career Centers about the industry, set up a new Careers web site and job portal, developed a Career video, which is on YouTube where it gathered extensive media recognition.
