Mission San Diego: Navigating Change
In today's changing market, maximizing our opportunities to do business is of the utmost importance. Over the past few years, the NAPSLO Annual Convention has grown in importance as members have found the meeting provides an excellent platform to do business, meet with others in the industry, and learn about current issues.
This year should be no different as NAPSLO travels to San Diego for the 2008 Annual Convention. The meeting is set for September 10-13 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel and the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina.
More than 3,000 people are expected to attend the convention. A major focus will again be on meetings in the Brokers' Lounge. In addition, based on last year's successful test of the Brokers' Club Tables, we will again offer a limited number of tables to purchase.
The Brokers' Lounge will open at Noon on Wednesday, September 10, followed by the Opening Reception that night. Thursday will be left open for attendees to network with their markets.
On Friday and Saturday, attendees will hear from speakers on current events and politics.
Glenn Beck, a nationally syndicated radio talk show host and host of the Glenn Beck show on CNN Headline News, will provide his take on current events when he presents the Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation Lecture presentation on Friday morning. Glenn promises to entertain and enlighten us with his inspiring and informative views and common sense solutions to problems that seemed too big and complicated to solve-until now. Also on Friday will be the traditional award presentations, recognition of NAPSLO Interns and Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance (ASLI) conferees, and the Annual Business meeting.
On Saturday, Jordan Lieberman and Fred Davis will discuss various national 2008 campaigns and review the anticipated rough presidential campaign and help us understand why the upcoming election is bound to be the most thrilling "tough race" campaign in a generation. Mr. Lieberman spoke at the 2008 Mid-Year Educational Workshop and Mr. Davis previously worked on Senator John McCain's campaign.
In addition to the networking opportunities and programs, attendees also will have the opportunity to explore the San Diego area through a VIP tour of the USS Midway, a walking tour of La Jolla featuring its art; or a kayaking adventure in the nearby Pacific Ocean. The convention hotels are also close to the famous Gaslamp Quarter entertainment district and he San Diego Padres ballpark.
NAPSLO returns to San Diego for the first time since 2003 providing a beautiful setting for productive meetings and networking opportunities.
We are expecting another great convention and I look forward to seeing you in San Diego.
John F. Wood III
Vice President & Convention Committee Chair
