Because the wildfires in California have stretched the resources of fire departments across the state, NAPSLO has decided to focus on a fundraising drive for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation rather than a volunteer effort. Last year's Habitat for Humanity volunteer program in New Orleans was very successful and made a great impact. NAPSLO wanted to take part in a similar effort this year, but it likely the department could still be occupied with extinguishing the wild fires in California and so NAPSLO looked for other ways to make a long-term difference.
NAPSLO hopes to raise $10,000 for the Fire Rescue Foundation by matching members' donations up to a total of $5,000. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) public charity founded by former fire fighters and works to help meet the equipment and training needs of the fire rescue department.
